Wonderopolis. When we, educators, find a rich and engaging resource, it feels like we have unearthed a pot of gold. One such resource is Wonderopolis.com, a site full of wonder, one for each day, with seemingly endless ways to discover more. Big thanks to Mrs. Michelle Cooper, Library Digital Learning Specialist at Region 7 ESC, for sharing this resource! Check it out for yourselves, but be warned: it's addictive!

Poetry. Recently students in grades 3-5 of Overton Elementary practiced writing a poem as a class. Each class made up a limerick and had a good time writing it. To find out the rules for writing a limerick, watch this short video (credits for sharing: https://www.imaginelearning.com/blog/2016/04/rhyme-poetry-activities-kids-love):

Speaking of poetry, 2019 Northeast Texas Poetry in Schools Contest accepts applications through March 1. This is a great opportunity for students to express themselves through poetry. For more information, visit the contest's website.

Library Lessons so far this semester: Students in younger elementary grades have been practicing their alphabetizing skills in preparation to learning to use their dictionary. Meanwhile, older elementary students are perfecting the use of reference materials such as Atlas, Thesaurus and Dictionary.
