There are many things taking place this time of the year! Here is a quick look at some of them.
Eddie Bowman's aka Chester Drawers' upcoming visit February 1. Our elementary students are so excited to meet the author, songwriter and comedian Eddie Bowman! We have read his books and sung his songs, and we can hardly wait to see him in person! Students will be able to purchase his autographed books/ CDs following the event.
Scholastic secondary book fair is coming to our secondary library location February 11-15, with the opportunity to shop online February 3-16. You can get a peek at the featured books, as well as view some of the book trailers by clicking on the linked text here.
2019 Northeast Texas Poetry in Schools Contest starts accepting applications February 1. This is a great opportunity for students to express themselves through poetry. For more information, visit the contest's website.
Our collection in both libraries is updated on an ongoing basis, so check our elementary or secondary library online catalog. A registered patron can create an account and reserve materials.

As part of the Choose Love program, we are promoting the concept of empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings on another. Empathy is one of the driving forces behind the noble expressions of courage, forgiveness, gratitude and compassion. It is also a very sought-after trait in today's job market. A well-developed sense of empathy is an indicator of high emotional intelligence. Reading, both fiction and nonfiction works, is one of the best ways to develop empathy, as it allows the reader to view another person's perspective.
